(More customer reviews)I discovered as everyone has that the problem lies in the replacing the batteries since the chinese version that it comes with are slightly a different size than the American ones. I was able to fix the problem by taking a small flat head screwdriver and pushing the metal connectors for the batteries more towards where the batteries would be sitting inside it and connecting with the spring and the metal connector. It took some time but I was able to make this product work with American batteries and my daughter was so happy to be able to play it again. Someone should definitely be monitering these products from China since I have another product I suspect has the same problem with AAA batteries.
